1) What Got you started at MacAddict, what were the Qualifications/
prerequisites for your Job?
I saw the ad for CD-ROM Editor on the web site, and sent in my resumé.
The basic qualifications were that you had to be well versed in things
macintosh, and be famili ar with lots of different shareware type
programs floating about on the net.
2) Did you get any help in producing the CD Rom? do you do other CD's
for Imagine?
I don't have any help in doing my end of the CD, which is to fill it with
content. I don't do any other CD's at imagine.
3) How do you receive materials for the disc? do companies send you
stuff or do you have to talk to them? Can little people get stuff on the disc?
I get lots of things sent to me, but I also call and ask for demos fro m
companies. I also get lots of things from our readers. Little people can
and do get their stuff on the disc, if it is something that is reasonably
interesting for our readers.
4) How long do you have to produce the CD? how much is it offset from the production of the Magazine?
I have about 3-3.5 weeks between burns of the CD. I usually have the CD
done about a week to a week and a half before the magazine goes out.
5) Is the staff really that annoyed by Staff videos?
Yes.
6) any new PC Tricks coming? Dynamite? Burning at the Stake?
Burning at the stake is a definite, but it may not happen right away.
Dynamite? Hmmmmm......
7) How does the CD-R you make turn into a CD that we receive?
I have no idea. I send it to some mysterious address, and Voila! it is
duplicated in the thousands and sent all over the place.
8) anything you want to say to MABC members??
Thanks for your support. :)
9) comments- Rants-Raves?
Buy MacOS 8. Tell your friends to buy it. Tell your friends to tell your –
friends to buy it. Buy two copies of it. Make your parents buy it. Make
your cousins buy it. MacOS 8 is really cool, and the more copies of it
that Apple sells, the brighter their future will be. If $100 seems like
a lot of money, consider this: the single best way to show support for
your platform of choice, the Mac, is with your wallet. Use it to vote
early and often. Head down to your favorite mac-mistreated retailer
and demand a copy of MacOS 8. Better yet, go in a big group of like
10 people, and demand a copy for each of you. Ok, that's it.
Thanks For the interview wade!
Next victim.. Err... Staffer- Mark Simmons
2 New domain name and you
As you may have noticed, The MABC has been bouncing around in domain names like a ping pong ball in a clothes dryer for the past month or so, but hopefully that will all be over, now that we have gotten our own domain name. Now what does this mean to you? well, for starters, no more long AOL addreses, larger bandwidth, and no more funky sub directories. On the flip side though, we have some drawbacks, such as the fact that I do not know how to setup a counter, guest book, or forms on this server, so AOL will still have to be included in the mix until I solve these problems. Also, look at the staff bios (which roughly half the staff- Adam, Wade, Nikki, Judy, Cheryl, Ken, and Mark participated in as of today), and they have picture (mug shot) of each of the staff members off of the Staff videos. Also, look for a big site map to show up of the MacAddict Web site, unless Mark tells me they're planning another big redo... We can do all of this now because we have the space.
3 Weekly updates vs daily updates
Many people have suggested that the MABC move to a daily updating scheme, esp. now
